Can Roof Repair be done in winter?

Winter is coming and it brings forth its blessings, along with its misfortunes close at hand. As the weather becomes unpleasant, you can only feel its pangs if you happen to have a leaky roof. While such a leaky roof may be a minor inconvenience during summer, the havoc it causes to your property and family during winter is on another scale. Of all the seasons, summer seems to fly by in a blink of an eye and before you know it, the first snowfall has made a huge white dazzling unexpected appearance and… your roof hasn’t been inspected. It snuck up on you pretty quickly didn’t it?

For the early birds, they typically choose to get their roofs repaired by a roofing company during summer. Well, this is what most homeowners prefer but roof repair in winter is also available any time you need it. However, this comes with its fair share of pros and cons just like any other type of roof repair.

It is no secret that even small leaks can lead to more damage to the structural integrity as a whole and in most cases are caused by snow buildup as well as ice. These leaks cause mold growth and even more damage to other structures of your house resulting to even more costly repairs. That is why you don’t have to wait for summer to get your roof repaired. Dripping water, ice dams, condensation and icicles are enough signs for a damaged roof and if you happen to see these signs then you need to get help from a roofing company ASAP!

Do Roofing Companies Work in The Winter?

Well, the answer is yes! Some of the roofers even prefer to work in the winter to the hot and humid summers. It seems dangerous, doesn’t it? Yeah, dangerous but not impossible. Imagine working during summer when temperatures are about 120. That seems like working in an oven, and that basically means you are being barbecued! In winter, the temperatures are less than 40, and that makes it a better working condition for most roofers.

As stated earlier, like any other roofing type, roof repair in winter comes with its fair share of pros and cons.

PROS AND CONS OF WINTER ROOF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT

PROS

It is cheaper

Majority of the roofing companies fix leaky roofs during summer when the weather is favorable and most often predictable. Therefore, most homeowners schedule their leaky roofs repairs during this time since most are available and are on vacation. So, the roofing companies have a lot of clients to serve and are mostly busy the entire season. When winter comes, they have less clients and therefore offer services at a more subsidized price.

It makes you ready for spring

By fixing your roof during winter, your home will be totally prepared to face spring rains. When temperatures start to rise in spring, the ice begins to melt and, without having your leaky roof fixed, chances are mold we start to grow and that’s never a good thing.

Ensures that heat does not escape

It is no secret winters are cold and the roof is the only thing that stands between your family and the chilly weather outside. By having your roof fixed during winter, you’ll ensure that your home is sealed tightly keeping chilly air out and warm air in.

CONS

It is harder to schedule

An overlap between your accessibility and that of the roofer is almost entirely a matter of chance. Fixing a leaky roof might therefore consume a lot of time.

If you notice a leaky roof during this cold season, don’t shy away from trying to find a roofer as some of them are still up for the challenge!
